“Too many people spend money they haven’t earned, to buy things they don’t want, to impress people they don’t like”. This quote shows the reality that we live in.

Last sunday evening, I was going through my bank statements and to my surprise I realised that I spent Rs 10,000/- on clothes. In the midst of pandemic and work from home, I hardly go out. Do I need these now? Absolutely not. Do I have place for them in my closet? Not really! Most of us belong to this category. The word “Sale” drives us crazy to buy even if it is not required. How do we control ourselves?

Here comes the most interesting idea of minimalism. It doesn’t mean to forego something. It doesn’t really stop you from purchasing your favourite dress. It just means “mindful simplicity”. Everytime you want to purchase something, leave the thought right there and get back to it in a day or two. If you still find the need to purchase it, do go ahead. With this approach you can ensure that only your needs are fulfilled and not all your wants…

Minimalism is mostly referred to materialistic things. In reality, it extends its wings to other areas as well. Let’s see where we need to start with:

# Minimalism in Thoughts: The more thoughts you have, the probability of negative thoughts and chaos increases. Meditation helps to channelize thoughts in a specific direction. It helps to divert your energy to areas that matter the most ignoring the unwanted noise in your ecology.

#Social Media Minimalism: The people you follow on social media has huge impact on who you are. Take a pause right here, go to your instagram/YouTube account and unfollow all those people whose ideologies/content do not add value to your life. Doing this once in a while shall ensure that you are on right path.

# Declutter your place: Allocate time to declutter your room at least once a month. This shall help you understand the items you don’t need but consume place in your closet. An organized room creates positive vibes and enhances your productivity.

Let us together take these tiny steps towards inculcating minimalist lifestyle. Afterall, the secret of happiness you see, is not found in seeking more, but to enjoy with all that you have.
